Zapier

The Flared app for Zapier starts Zaps from link events and creates, changes, and finds links from a Zap. Anyone in a workspace can connect it. The actions and the search work on every plan; the triggers need Plus or Founding Lifetime.

Connect Zapier

In the dashboard, open Integrations and select Connect on the Zapier card. In Zapier, add a Flared step to a Zap and sign in. Flared opens in a window: sign in, choose the workspace, and approve. Zapier asks Flared for four permissions:

  • See your links
  • Create, edit, and turn off links
  • See your domains
  • Stay connected until you remove it

Zapier names the connection after the workspace. A connection works in that workspace only. To use another workspace, add another connection. You need no API token.

Triggers

Each trigger is instant: Flared sends the event to Zapier right after the change, and a click milestone within about 10 minutes.

New Link
A link was created in the dashboard, the CLI, the API, MCP, an import, or a Zap.
Updated Link
The destination, the title, or an app link of a link changed. The step also gets the previous values.
Link Turned Off
The short URL stopped redirecting.
Link Click Milestone
A link reached a number of counted clicks. Every N Clicks sets the interval: a multiple of 100, from 100 to 1,000,000. The default is 1,000.

Each event has the link fields: the link ID, the domain, the slug, the short URL, the destination, the title, the iPhone and Android destinations, whether the link is on, and when it was created and changed. It also has the event name, an event ID, and the time of the event. The events are the same as the webhook events.

When you turn on a Zap, Zapier subscribes to the event in Flared and renews the subscription each week. When you turn the Zap off or delete it, Zapier ends the subscription. A failed delivery is retried the same way as a webhook: up to 10 attempts over 72 hours.

Actions and search

Create Link
Creates a short link to a destination URL, with an optional slug, title, domain, UTM values, and iPhone and Android destinations.
Update Link
Changes the destination, the title, the UTM values, or the iPhone and Android destinations of a link.
Turn Link Off
Turns a link off, so its short URL stops redirecting.
Turn Link On
Turns a link on again.
Find Link
A search step. A short URL such as https://flared.link/spring-sale finds that link. Other text finds the newest link whose slug or title contains it, and an exact slug comes first.
  • Leave Slug empty for a generated slug, and Domain empty for the default domain of the workspace.
  • The UTM fields set utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content on the destination. In Update Link without a new destination, they go on the current one.
  • In Update Link, an empty field keeps its current value. A Zap cannot clear a value; use the dashboard for that.
  • The same Create Link input in the same Zap within 24 hours returns the first link. When Zapier repeats a step, it does not create a second link.
  • The Link field lists the 100 newest links. For an older link, add a Find Link step first and use its link ID.

Errors

When Flared refuses a step, Zapier shows the Flared message and error code in the Zap’s history, such as a slug that is already taken or a plan limit. A Zap on a Free workspace cannot turn on with a Flared trigger: Zapier shows “Instant triggers need Flared Plus or Lifetime.”

Limits

  • A workspace can have 50 trigger subscriptions at a time. Each Zap that is on and starts with a Flared trigger uses one. They do not count against the 5 webhook endpoints.
  • Links that a Zap creates count against the link limit of the workspace, as links from the dashboard do. See pricing.
  • The Flared app for Zapier works with Flared Cloud only. A self-hosted installation can use Zapier’s Webhooks app with its own API and webhooks.

Disconnect

In the dashboard, open Connections and remove Zapier. Its access ends at once, and Flared deletes its trigger subscriptions. Zaps with a Flared step stop until you connect again. A connection also stops when the person who made it leaves the workspace or is removed from it. To remove the connection in Zapier as well, delete it from your connected apps in Zapier.
